  The Builder's Guide online was developed to supplement the printed version of The Builder's Guide, which is a marketing piece we mail out every week to owners, general contractors, and owner-builders who receive a building permit in the Portland, Oregon metro or Wasatch Front, Utah areas.



We have developed a few FAQ's to help further explain our program:

Q:  Why do you give away free items and prizes for getting bids from companies in your book or website?

A:  As a marketing company, our job is to help our clients (the advertisers on this website and in our book) get their products or services in front of people who are actually building a home (you) and who may have an interest in their offerings. We offer free promotions so that we can track the success of our product and its usefulness.

Q:  Why do I have to create an account to be able to get rebates and/or rewards?

A:  We only offer our promotional rewards and rebates to individuals who have received a building permit from the city or county in which you are building; we will cross-reference the information you supply us with the permit information we collect each week to make sure you are eligible for the promotions on this site.

Q:  Why do I need a building permit in order to be considered eligible to use this site?

A:  We have some personal experience in building homes with (and without) the help of a general contractor, and know how difficult the process can be. Our program is designed with the serious homebuilder in mind, who is legitimately trying to find local suppliers and contractors who offer the best quality at the best price. We simply don't have the resources to reward everyone for using our site. We allocate certain funds to find out how to better service those people who are actually in the homebuilding process.

Q:  What if I know that I will be building, but just haven't received my building permit, yet? Can I still get bids and redeem them for points?

A:  Our guide is meant to be a help to anyone hoping to build now or in the future. If you contact any of the contractors or suppliers listed on this site or in our guide in 120 days or less before receiving a permit, you may submit them to us for points / prizes once you have received a residential building permit.

Q:  Do I have to be currently building a project in order to receive any of your free promotions?

A:  Yes. You must begin building within 120 days from the receipt of your residential building permit. (Also, see response to "Why do I have to create an account?" in this section.)

Q:  How long does it take to get my reward and/or rebate?

A:  We ask that you allow us 3 - 4 weeks for delivery, although it normally won't take that long. Once you submit points to us online, the biggest delay is usually waiting for the physical copy of the bid(s) and/or invoice(s) (via fax, email, or mail) that you send to us. We also verify with the supplier or contractor that the bid and/or purchase really did take place within 120 days (this is to discourage any dishonest people from taking advantage of us, as well as to remind our advertisers that our program really works!)

Q:  What if I submitted my points for a reward or rebate, and haven't heard anything back?

A:  Our goal is to contact you by phone or email within three (3) business days of you submitting anything to us. If three business days have passed and you still have not heard from us, you can call us at (866) 482-5783, or email at info@thebuildersguide.com.


Q:  Can I get multiple bids from the same company?

A:  You can get as many bids as you'd like, but we will only award you points for the FIRST bid you get from each company. The same rule holds true for purchases; we will only award points for the first invoice you show us from each company.

Q:  Can I submit a bid and a purchase from the same company?

A:  Yes! You will be awarded points for the first bid you submit from the company, as well as the first proof of purchase (i.e. receipt or invoice) you show us.

Q:  Are the number of points limited that I can receive?

A:  Well, you can do the math and find out for yourself that if you received a bid from every single company in your area, and purchased from every one of them, you would eventually cap the amount of points you could receive.

Q:  How do I check the status of my rebate and/or reward?

A:  Logging into your account should show you an account overview of your current points, pending points, and upcoming rewards and rebates you have earned.
